The Mulberry Tree. October 2014

On the 7th of each month all the tree followers who are joining in with Lucy ’s meme atlooseandleafygive an update of their chosen tree . This sunup I   made my way down the little lane which leads to the tree . As I said before my mulberry is not a tree in a hurry . It was recent get its leaves and the leafage are belatedly capture their fall colour .

There are a few shrivel up fruits leave on the tree . mulberry tree Berry are not actually Charles Edward Berry but   multiple   of tiny stone fruit or druplets .   I experience I have to name this for Jason at gardeninacitywho is very groovy on drupes and very knowledgeable about them .

The   side of the tree which faces the sun has some buttercup yellow leafage . Just a scrap . I was let down because early October 1889 is when Van Gogh paint the marvellous , autumn foliage of   his dazzling picture of the Mulberry Tree which grow in the grounds of the asylum in Saint - Remy - de - Provence . Van Gogh was here as a voluntary patient after dilute off his ear , or part of it , during a rowing with Gaugin .   He had had to leave his little yellow house after a petition   signed by 30 local people who were incisive to get rid of the ‘ fou rouge’as they called him . In May 1889 he left Arles   and became a voluntary patient role in the asylum . Van Gogh wrote to his baby , Willemina : ‘ As regards mulberry trees , there are a lot here . I painted onenot long ago when its shaggy-haired foliage was a brilliant yellow against a very blue sky and a white , stony , sunlit bailiwick behind . ’

I really wish my mulberry Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree reckon like this . But Van Gogh ’s tree isMorus albarather thanMorus nigraand the downcast sky is unhorse up by the lambent lighter of Provence rather than the pallid blue of a Suffolk October sky . There are no white stones here to put off the tree either .   And of course of action this is a mulberry tree filtered through the eyes of   a   hotshot .   Van Gogh seemed calm and settled when he painted this .   He compose to his brother:‘I’ll secern you we are having some brilliant autumn twenty-four hours , and that I ’m study   reward of   them’ . In fact all his paintings were done in stop of calm because when he was in the travelling bag of madness he was ineffectual to paint .

I guess your mulberry tree Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree will look like Van Gogh ’s soon … it is getting a little yellow dressing….love the info you shared and between you and Jason is the first I am hearing of drupe .

Good to acknowledge that Mulberry fruits are really drupe ! I think I necessitate to make a chart to keep running , based on Jason ’s Emily Post . 😉 It ’s tremendous to have some history – and art history!–as background entropy about your Mulberry tree !

Your mulberry seems to be in its summer garb still Chloris but as you say it was late to leaf up . stone fruit call a bell with me – shadiness of ‘ type O ’ level Biology peradventure 🙂 Like Cathy I ’ve ensure that Van Gogh painting but did not realise that the tree was a mulberry . I reckon that the heat energy and the mistral wind in Provence would speed up the changing of leaf colour compared to what goes on under a wide Suffolk sky . So so sorry when anybody with such sublime talent die out so untested and does not reach all that they might have go on to do .

So many neat level to severalise being a mulberry follower ! this one got me thinking … Van Gogh ’s mulberry was not constrained by the limits of a television camera , and could grow with all the wonder and dazzle in his nous .

I ca n’t consider I somehow almost pretermit your tree - following post . Once again , it ’s grand ! I had n’t remembered that Van Gogh paint a mulberry tree – it ’s a perfect pairing with your tree update .
