Finally ! Something that we are go to see . After the last few calendar week of toil ditch and drains and a whole luck of piece of work that only gets bury – we   began to lie the brick for the b pergola patio .

Piles of reclaimed brick are a pretty vulgar site around the farm – it will be decent to eventually see them put to apply .

All of the brick for the project is reclaimed from sites all over Ohio .   A large part came from the brick floor to my daddy ’s sure-enough b and the Cardington , Ohio barn we deplume down late last summer .   Still more from old brick terrace in Columbus and Zanesville , Ohio .   The end outcome is a large hoard of brick that we hope to blend into a really unique pergola patio flooring .

We tested several patterns to get the right fit and appear with the rescued brick

When we first built the b late last yr – we had put down a good 3 to 5 inch base of limestone screening .   It ’s fundamentally the limestone rubble that is left over when prey separate the various sizes of Rock through screen door .   It ’s a really cheap mathematical product ( about $ 5.00 / ton ) – and is outstanding to use for a base fabric of patios and walkway .   It fills and levels easily , and once it ’s down and gets wet – it lock down and turn into a concrete - corresponding base .   That really helped give us a head start on the patio . We but add up a few more in of the screenings to level it and then pack it down to give us a arrant working control surface .

End of Day 1 . About one - third of the patio is down . I ’m sure work today will go much dense with sore knees and backs ! 🙂

We tested several patterns to get the right fit and look with the reclaimed brick

So with a short drawing string – a grade – and a whole hatful of reclaimed bricks – we get down to build it .   One thing is for sure , when your working with rescued brick from all over – nothing will ever fit “ perfectly ” .   We had to experiment for a while with the form to decide on the look we wanted .    We in the end decided to use a soldier course around the perimeter using dad ’s sure-enough brick – and then satisfy in the main patio area with the flushed fired brick .

We work last evening for about 3 60 minutes -and made pretty ripe progress -about 1/3 of the main terrace country is down .   Hopefully , by the end of the weekend -we can fill in between with mason sand – set down a pair of table and chairs … and decompress !   Oh wait – that ’s veracious – we still have to brick the whole barn !   Oh well , all in time … ..
