The retiring twain of weeks of winter have made me long for summer again . Just thinking about the red-hot Sunday , gardening , baseball game games and more was enough to make me felicitous . We have had several days of below zero temperature , glacial farting and schooltime closings , along with the grey and gloomy skies .
We cherish most days of winter and see it as a time to regenerate our body , mind , and gain the vigour that will be required for summer projects .
However , with the winter blue begin to set it – we had to do something more to remind us that summer is just around the corner – enter the Soft Pretzel Recipe

So this past Sunday afternoon , we decided to “ opine Summer ” and make Homemade Soft Pretzels ! With 4 active teenagers , Jim and I have spend a countless hour , days and even weeks at the ball park . When you spend that much time at various bollock field , you ca n’t help at some point to break down and buy a raging soft pretzel – so what better manner to retrieve summertime than baseball game fields and soft pretzels !
Many people will tell you that you have to utilize lye to make the utter voiced pretzel . I beg to differ . I prefer to put as lilliputian chemicals into my food as possible , and although this may not be an accurate replication of the ball parking lot soft pretzel – there are never any leftovers ! So here is to await forward to those hot summertime days with this diffused pretzel recipe , and no , we promise not to kick how hot it gets this summertime !

Knead dough for 3 minutes on a floured surface.
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 cup lukewarm water1 packet active instant barm ( 2 and 1/4 teaspoons)1 teaspoon salt1 Tablespoon grain sugar4 cup all - purpose flour ( approximately)Optional:1 large testis , beatencourse ocean salt for sprinkle
Instructions :
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

1 . Line baking tack with lambskin report and set away .
2 . Dissolve barm in tepid body of water . * You do not have to valuate the temperature . Stir with a spoonful until mixed – takes about 1 minute . You may have some small clusters of barm that remain .
Knead dough for 3 minute on a floured surface .

Cut about 1/3 cup of dough from your ball to make each pretzel.
3 . supply salt and bread ; stir until combined .
4 . Slowly sum 3 cups of flour , 1 cup at a time . conflate with a wooden spoon until dough is thick .
Cut about 1/3 cup of clams from your ball to make each pretzel .

5 . Add 3/4 loving cup more flour until the dough is no longer sticky . If it is still unenviable continue to sum up up to 1/2 cup more . * * Hint – if you poke the dough with your digit and it recoil back , it is ready to knead .
Next Steps:
6 . bend the dough out onto a floured surface . Knead the dough for about 3 minutes and form into a ball .
Roll out dough – more or less 20 column inch in distance then begin to mould into a pretzel shape .
7 . With a needlelike tongue , sheer the shekels into just about 1/3 cupful subdivision . * * This mensuration does not have to be exact – use however much dough you would like count on the size of the pretzel that you desire .

8 . Roll the dough into a forget me drug with an even diam . Roll to your desired duration . ( We rolled the dough to about 20 inches in duration ) .
9 . Form the pretzel -Take the ends of the rope and string them together so the dough form a U. Cross the ends over each other about an inch from the oddment , then twist them over each other . Then bring the ends towards yourself and press them down into a pretzel shape .

- Optional : you could boil 9 cup of water with 2/3 cup of baking soda . dip the pretzel one by one into the mixture for 30 seconds . This will give you that dark outside and texture of traditional pretzels . Again , it ’s not necessary and we did not do it for these pretzel .
Dip both incline in egg wash and apply salt before baking .
10 . In a pie lulu beat the egg with a whisk . Dunk the shaped pretzel into the ball wash ( both sides ) . billet on bake sheet and patter with salt . * * Another option would be to coat with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar for a sweet version of this recipe .

11 . Bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees F.
Pretzels will grow in the oven when baking – and brown when come out under the broiler .
12 . twist the oven to broil and broil for 5 more minute to brown the peak . Watch nearly to quash burn . * * Skip this step if you dunked the pretzel in the baking soda bath .

Serve affectionate or at way temperature . Pretzels may be stash away in an airtight container for 3 day – to prevent lose unfitness , add a objet d’art of bread to your container . Pretzels will also freeze out well .
