Despite the hard horticulture condition this summer , it seem some gardeners had a lot of success with their vegetable garden .
One clue that it was a good - than - foresee class was the Denver metro area ’s Plant a rowing for the Hungry results . Individual gardeners and community gardens report donating 4890 pound sterling of vegetable to 16 dissimilar service agencies during our annual run .

That means there were quite a few gardening succeeder tarradiddle .
What worked for you this year ?
The top three winner for me included expanding my container garden , imbed more spicy white pepper and growing 13 different kinds of tomatoes .

expand the Container Garden
This year I grew many more kind of vegetables in containers than I had before . In addition to mycucumber experiment , I also planted radish , eggplant , common beet , kale , carrot , peas , tomatoes and tomatillos in container .
I was proud of with the results of all these planting , but was specially surprised at the big crop of tomatillos I harvested from the two plant grow in one 15 - gallon fabric Smart Pot . The eggplant , engraft in a 20″ x 21″ container , also produced well .

A larger container garden was easier to maintain , it used less water than a traditional vegetable bed and there were no issues with pesterer or industrial plant disease . It was also nice to be capable to move some of the containers inside the service department when an early cold magic spell rack up in September .
Planting More Hot Peppers
I tried some novel - to - me pepper varieties this year and was happy with the results . Two varieties , ‘ Mariachi ’ and ‘ Cayennetta ’ , produce more than enough peppers for eating fresh , adding to recipes , dry out , and call on into red-hot sauce .

I also planted red pepper , serrano , three kinds of jalapeno peppers ( let in ‘ Early ’ and ‘ Macho Nacho ’ ) and two diversity of black ornamental pepper . All the plants produced good crops of black pepper that benefit heat - Isaac Mayer Wise from the unusually live and dry atmospheric condition .
Growing Different Tomatoes
I implant 13 different variety of love apple from cherry red - sizing to beefsteak type in colors that include red , yellow , orangish , inglorious and divest .

The ‘ Tye - Dye ’ cross was one of my favorites for its looks and taste . The bicolor red and gold tomato has stripes that total extra interest to an already thoroughly - tasting tomato .
I also like ‘ Glacier ’ because it was an early - time of year tomato that produced all summer long . The fruits were small and packed with smack .
Of of course , my all - metre favored tomato is ‘ Black Krim ’ . My garden would n’t be complete without at least two of those plants .

What were the top three winners in your veg garden ? Please partake in any planting or upkeep ideas , specific vegetable variety or other vegetable horticulture tip that exploit well for you this growing season .
