Today ’s picture are from Cherry Ong in Richmond , British Columbia . She says,“We have a very small back yard – about 500 straight feet – and when we moved in many years ago , our it was a mere eyepatch of grass ( known in these part as “ The Builder ’s Special ” ) . The impetus for the garden was my married man ’s petition to have more seclusion . I did n’t fuck much about North American gardening when we started the project as I grow up in a tropical country ( though my mummy has been an avid nurseryman ever since I can call up ) , so I felt quite intimidate at first . We also had a very tight budget so we need for quotes from different landscapers and designers and clear that we could not afford their avail . It then became a DIY project .
I was nervous and want our project to be successful , so after many months of researching , I found a local nursery that offered an in - greenhouse excogitation service of process ( Phoenix Perennials ) where their in - firm designer ( always my favorite , Diane Brown ) assists the client in the plantscape design . The design was all plan out in the glasshouse and all our wants , need and garden growing conditions were occupy into explanation . Advice on where to procure materials and method to plant were also instruct . We had wanted a foliage garden with pursuit yr - round that bring home the bacon some privateness from our close - by neighbour . I also discovered that my married man and our nipper like scented flower and leafage so we had incorporate that into our works pick as well .
We bulge with a minor segment of our yard in 2008 and lento cut the other beds day by mean solar day and weekend after weekend until we completed both our front and backyards . Our entire family was involved in the whole operation – I remember how my son was so inexorable about deliver earthworms from the smaller portion of upturned sodomist that we take away when we cut the beds . This twelvemonth , we were able to find a great second - hand outdoor lay out on Craigslist so we finally have a place to sit and enjoy all our severe body of work ( though the sarcasm of it all is that we had a very late and short summertime – oh well ) .

uncalled-for to say , I have become totally addicted to garden with this try . Of course , the garden go along to exchange and there stay on many things to learn . We waited some three years for the backyard to grow in ( photos taken in 2010 and July 2011 ) and are encouraged that it will continue to look more beautiful in the years to come . ”
What a arresting before and after , Cherry ! Thanks so much for divvy up it with us .
