April showers bring May blossom , or so the old saying goes . And while May flower are delightful ( and a welcome part of spring in snow - aweary northern Wisconsin ) , June peak , July flowers , August flowers and September flush are equally welcome around the farm .

The truth is , flowers are gratifying all times of twelvemonth . Many different case of flowers , both wild and cultivated , grow around my farm and bloom in wave as the seasons shimmy . But you’re able to never have too many flush , and I have ambitions to plant more — many more .

Daylilies

They ’re big , they ’re beautiful . They add up back year after year . And they do n’t require much attention .

A bed of daylilies in full bloom is a beautiful sight . I found a patch of orange daylilies develop dotty in the woods of my farm a few class agoand transplanted some into my orchard . I intend to transfer more this year , since daylily do comfortably in full sunshine and do n’t bloom to their full potency under the shade of Tree .

Hydrangeas

A few years ago , I bought a lovely hydrangea in full rosiness from a local baby’s room . The giant clusters of peak change color from blank to pink as they age , and it ’s a endearing centerpiece in my garden .

I need to purchase more hydrangea this year and engraft some in my orchard . I may even try produce one in a parent bed or large pot so I can control the soil pH and grow downcast flowers .

Grape Hyacinths

They ’re among the first flower to germinate in the springtime up here , and the burst of thick grim coloration they provide is refreshing come off the dull grayscale of winter .

I once see a photo of a walkway planted totally withgrape hyacinths . While I would n’t require to double the coming on a heavily - used path , the sweetheart of the expansive grape hyacinth planting leave a vivid imprint in my mind . Somewhere , somehow , I want to plant a similarly enceinte mathematical group of grapeshot hyacinths .

Crocuses

They also come up early in spring , cater a flash of color almost as soon as the snow melts . By the time winter ends , I ’m ready to see signs of animation and color . Planting more crocuses is mellow on my leaning .

Irises

They have it off pee , so I ’ve been planting them extensively in a low-spirited office of my orchard where water often gathers after heavy rains . I obtain their foliage pretty even when they ’re not in efflorescence , but when their flower buds frivol away up and burst into bloom … beautiful !

My iris flowers are various tincture of disconsolate and purple . But many other colors are available , and I need to constitute more for variety . A few dashes of yellow might look lovely amidst the blues and purples .
