New eyes & ideas at the San Francisco Garden Blogger’s Fling
I ca n’t trust I did it , but in June , I shut down three computers and left Greg in boot of bunnies , cats , dog , and garden watering to maneuver to San Francisco for the yearly Garden Blogger ’s Fling !
I was way overdue for a recharge . Bloggers I ’ve only met online pump up my wonder constituent when I match them nerve - to - typeface .
Gardeners from around the country , Canada , and the UK swapped perceptions about designs and plants mutual and foreign .

Through chumminess of writer in every area of publication , garden design , social media , and photography , we connect our local perception to global ones .
While maxing out tv camera cards , we extended online family relationship to more personal one of kin , business challenges , and tips on everything from cameras , pillows ( ! ) , committal to writing , ground squash vines , and the direction of media platforms . The combining of talk matched the centre - stounding plant jazz group we see , too . And you know what ? I STILL do n’t have my vocalism back .
Hmm , I can already tell that I have thing about silver . I know some of you were already saying , “ Oh , there she goes again with silver ! ”

Do these plants mould for all of us ? Nope . And rats : I ’d love to have this Aeonium . Oh yeah , I ’m into purple , too .
This hydrangea would have a heart attack the minute I pulled into the private road .
I ca n’t have Kangaroo paws , but I can have American aloe if I grit up my clay land . And pick the I that can take freakish winters .

I did see many things we can arise ! AtSunset magazine’sgardens , here ’s a fun combining of artichoke plant , herbs , and cosmos .
I was thrilled to really see Sunset ’s office and gardens , since I have three variant of theirWestern Garden Book . And I picked up lots of idea to try at dwelling house . I tend to be spread - brained - planting . This will convince me to clump , by golly !
I ’ve often visitedAnnie ’s Annuals online , but meeting her and seeing her famous terminus was a highlighting for me .

And what do you make love , flamingos even “ grow ” at Annie ’s , like for us .
I ’ve grownVerbena bonariensis , but it was n’t quite like this .
Check out this eye - come out design with eloquent ponyfoot ( Dichondra argentea ) , wonderful for us in well - drained spots .

At a private garden , many of us agreed that the royal isTrachelium caeruleum , purple umbrella plant , which I ’ve grown ( but do n’t take that to the bank . ) Still , that combination of colors and textures is one I ’m go to essay with something or other .
Wherever we live , we can create the same pictures , in our own way , with plants that fit our situation .
I love the picture that designer , author and bloggerRebecca Sweetcreated at home . Here are just a few shots to inspire your imagination .

Sculptor Matt Gil’shome tucked under the highway would match right in with Austin !
His testimonial to darling pets is giving me ideas ! No no , I call , no bunny rabbit carrot . But I would love to have nontextual matter that embraces the sky .
I also really need his kitchen and den .

His wife secern me that Matt made the furniture and cabinets . The wood for the burnt umber table came from a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree that had died on family unit property .
One evening , we dine in the splendour of theConservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park .
Renownedphotographer Saxon Holtgives us a discriminative stimulus for our chemical group scene .

I first gather Saxon by telephone set when he was reconnoitre position to photograph forThe American Meadow Garden , an award - acquire book written by John Greenlee .
The next twenty-four hour period , he give us a photography class at theSan Francisco Botanical Garden , using that frame to show us how to replete the physique .
Check out hisblog , Mental Seeds , for fabulous photographs and how he does it . You do n’t want to miss out on his upcoming photo tips ebook , either ! He ’s also one of the blogger on the super collaboration atGardening Gone Wild .

As you may tell , it was sunny and HOT ! Over 90 degree most of the prison term . Thank Heaven , just as we were as wilt as even my xeric plants are right now , a gardener offer us frosty drinks and cool down in her pool . It was really a fun few minutes , document by Janet Zargan Ledebuhr , blogger atThe Queen of Seaford . It was wonderful getting to sleep together her in person and find that our paths sort of crossed years ago when she lived in Austin .
I made lifelong friends , who sent me home with a “ fling ” in my step . you’re able to fulfill them all , too , though theirwonderful blogsthat tell their inspiring stories of gardens and biography .
Thanks toPam Penick , Diana Kirby , Zanthan GardensandBonnie Martinfor start the chuck out connection in its 2008 Austin debut !
