Enjoying the diversity of plants that thrive in California
Steve , who gardens in Los Angeles , keeps broadcast in beautiful photos , so I keep sharing them ! If you missed his previous post , you’re able to catch up here : Steve ’s Southern California Garden .
He certainly takes full advantage of the beautiful plants that his climate leave him to grow , and they are boom despite the odd atmospheric condition the area has had this year .
Succulentsare always undecomposed choice forcontainer plantingsbecause they wo n’t mind if you miss a lacrimation . And if you live in a mood that is less than idealistic for them , it is easy to move them out of excessive rain or insensate that might damage them .

Gorgeous cushy yellowLeucospermum(Zones 9–11 ) blossom tumble down with a background of blue California lilac ( Caeonothus , hardiness zona varies by mintage ) . The California lilac isnative to the westcoast of North America , while the leucospermum hails from South Africa . Many South African species do well in California because the climates can be quite interchangeable .
Here are more container plantings , with aLeucospermumshowing off in the midsection .
Fivespot ( Nemophilamaculata , one-year ) is a California nativeannualthat grows and flower during the typically bed wetter wintertime months before fading away in the drying agent summertime . It is easy to see how it gets its vulgar name , with the dark gamy fleck on each of the five petals .

Variegated superbia of Madeira ( Echiumcandicans‘Star of Madeira ’ , Zones 9–10 ) is just starting to amount into bloom , but the steeple of blue efflorescence are entirely upstaged by that incrediblevariegated leafage .
A genus Penstemon ( Penstemonsp . ) flower in the foreground is gage up by a redCallistemon . TheCallistemonis native to Australia , whilePenstemonis a vast genus with countless species aboriginal to western North America .
