In a Vase on Monday. Tyrian Purple.
Last week I celebrated autumn in my arrangement , but today is October and I experience I want to retake the memories of summer with some lush shades of over-embellished , mauve and reddish blue . Tyrian purple was a costly imperial coloration made from thousands of midget snail . No snails were involved in my arrangement .
Asters are prevail in the garden at the instant and I love the pocket-sized starry ones which are truthful to their name . I used my favourites ; ‘ Le Vasterival ’ , ‘ fiddling Carlow’,Astercordifolius‘Ideal ’ andAster cordifolius‘Photograph ’ . These are all really now symphyotrichums but today I am sticking with the name asters . There are a twosome of salvias;Salvia leucantha‘Purple Velvet ’ andSalvia‘Amistad ’ which is a truthful purple and look as if it could be made from crushed escargot , unlike the rest period of my bloom today .
I also used the lovely lily-white and lilac colouredSolanum laxum‘Crèche ar Pape ’ which I think must be a erratum when first I saw its name because it does n’t make sensation , but ‘ Crèche ar Pape ‘ is in reality the name of a garden in Brittany . I remark a mass of people are listing it as ‘ Crèche du Pape ’ now which sounds grammatically correct , but bizarre . Being continent , I do n’t suppose the Bishop of Rome has much need of a crib . Other flowers are a Dahlia pinnata seedling , which is shaft because it ’s pink , a few tardy sprigs of lavender , Verbena bonariensisandGeranium‘Rosanne ’ which blooms all summer long . I have featured the fluffy heads ofAgeratum‘Blue Horizon ’ before and I will certainly grow it next year as it flower for ages and is a wonderful slice flower . Ok , I know these are blue but they go quite well with the purpleness and lilac .

Geranium‘Rosanne’.
Geranium‘Rosanne ’ .
I also used downy heads ofPennisetum alopecuroides‘Hameln ’ which is a mythological supergrass which has obligingly seed itself about . The campanula is the invasiveCampanularapunculoideswhich is a pest and I am always render to eliminate it . Its vernacular name is ‘ crawl Campanula ’ and that is a skillful name for it . As it really is autumn now I used a purple fruit as a prop .
It is a fruit of theAkebia quinataand this is the first time I have see fruit on my plant . There are plenty of seeds which I shall be seed . After I had take the photos for this Charles William Post I abruptly call back : ‘ giddy Cow ! ’

Geranium‘Rosanne’.
Passiflora‘Silly Cow ’
Passiflora‘Silly Cow ’ with its huge alien blooms is just the affair to terminate off the arrangement and rescue it from being too airy fairy .
I arranged the flowers , ( well plonked them really , ) in my black Victorian mourning vase which is appropriate as today I am in mourning for summer .

Cathywho hosts this meme , ‘ In a Vase on Monday’has feature some of her lovely assemblage of knotweeds today , which are are actually not Mary Jane at all . They are called persicaria these days and very pretty they are too . Do go and see .

You have a grand assembling of purple bloom , not to speak of the fruit , which I get fascinating . How I ’d eff to walk through your garden !

Perfect . I care everything about it – from your reason for create it , to the colors , to the bloom and props you choose . I ’ve always opt these patrician shades of “ Asters , ” although I ’m come out to genuinely apprise the darker purpleness of N.E. Asters , as well . But , wow , yeah … the finishing touch here are magic , too . 🙂
Just endearing ! The love efflorescence is amazing ! Since I live way up njorth , I ’ve only seen them in pictures .
