For years we essay some of the old stand - by tricks . We place bottles of water where they would build up . It did n’t puzzle out . They actually built a nest on top of the water bottle once – but usually would just knock it to the land to progress .
Our personal rule is if we find a nest with eggs – we have to leave it. So the key is to stop them from building in the first place!
We would spray the surfaces with live peppercorn powder and other anti - bird constituent repellents . Again , it did not seem to phase them in the least . In fact , in some case , we both thought they liked it even more !
Finally , defeat set in and we tried wrapping some of their favorite nesting sphere in wimp wire . That one in reality worked for the most part . But not only was it sentence consuming to put up , it also looked awful !
So what is this surprisingly comfortable root that works like a good luck charm ? Well , a few year back , after watching us conflict nests day in and day out , our neighbour at our older farm mentioned that she used to merely put up little 2″ to 3″ moldable people figurines wherever bird would build a nest . And she said without fail , they would stop .
To be honest , we did n’t really think it would work . After all , we had used water bottles and other particular and it did n’t stop them in the least .
But after another Clarence Day of conduct down 3 newfangled nests , we cipher what the heck ? We happened to have a few Sesame Street figurines in the house . So , in pure despair , we put them on top of our back porch sparkle . Both of the lights had been ground zero for nest building for a self-coloured workweek plus .
To be exact , we used Oscar the Grouch on the right light and define up Cookie Monster to protect the leftfield . And much to our surprisal – it worked ! The two robins that had been establish nest after nest for closely a solid week suddenly break off .

Fast forward to our raw farm this spring and the bird once again jump into legal action . On the barndominium and several outbuildings , we have cosmetic corbels . We absolutely make love the look of them , but the birds think of them as personal nest holders .
So when nesting activity begin in businesslike – we expire to work too ! This time , with an assortment of 20 figurines , which was enough for each of the corbels . And as crazy as it sounds , they discontinue building immediately .
For stark joke , we have get with our Sesame Street figurines . However , any small two to three inch “ soul ” will do the fast one .
