How to Paint Watercolor Succulents

material

  • For this demo , I used 4 water-color : ( Yellow Ochre , Phthalocyanine Green , Cobalt Blue , Perylene Maroon)and 4Dr . Ph . Martin ’s Bombay inks(Grass Green , Green , Teal , Red Violet )

Because I like to use racy , dark people of color in my graphics , I forge with artist - grade , highly pigmented paints . I use inks as well as watercolors because the inks are permanent once dry ; they wo n’t run if you paint over them . That said , you do n’t have to have fancy paint to make art . habituate what you have on hand . This labor can be done with as trivial as a basic watercolor goat god exercise set . The color will believably not be as dark as those show here , but you could still paint a beautiful watercolor .

How to Paint Watercolor Succulents Step (1)

Nearly the entire house painting is done with one introductory watercolor technique : fading edge . Be certain to have two brushes on hand for this — a fine pointed brush to apply the colour ( Teal ink ) and a more or less great brush to use clean water .

To fade the edges of the succulents , lay down a brush apoplexy along the edge of each leaf , and then immediately go over the outer edge of that brushstroke with the sporting wet brush so that the colour fades out .

set more of the succulents with Teal ink and the same fading bound proficiency .

Lay in a little Red Violet ink for dividing line .

Then , interchange to Green ink for the next succulent .

Mix Teal ink and Red Violet ink to paint the next three succulent .

How to Paint Watercolor Succulents Step (4)

There are two pocket-size area in the painting with little round leave . Paint over these with a abstemious wash of Red Violet ink , and when it is dry , cover the fiddling round leave-taking , as well as the two branches of leave in the upper right corner , with disguise fluid . Use cheap old brushes to do this and moisten the brushes immediately afterward because the fluid will ruin them if it dries on the bristles .

observe : block out fluid save clip , because once it dries you could paint over the entire rag of composition without worrying about getting paint in the amiss places . Masking fluid contains latex and is slightly toxic , so be sure to work in a ventilated area while applying it . If you are doing this project with children or you simply prefer not to use masking fluid , feel free to hop this footfall . you’re able to always paint around the areas where you do n’t want color .

Now , wet the entire background with a clean sozzled brush , before flatten in Red Violet ink . Paint around the tumid succulents . If the small-scale leaf are cut through in disguise fluid , you may paint over them . Leave a small area in the bottom proper corner unpainted to keep the background from looking too flavourless .

How to Paint Watercolor Succulents Step (5)

When this is dry , start giving the succulent a small more color . I used Yellow Ochre and Cobalt Blue for this , as well as a bit of Grass Green ink .

To have the background look just slightly more neutral , skirmish over it with a washables of Perylene Maroon .

When this is juiceless , remove the screening fluid . begin at one edge and gently displume the screening fluid off the newspaper . The paper can tear if the masking fluid is removed too approximately .

How to Paint Watercolor Succulents Step (6)

Now for the finishing touches . The succulents postulate just a little more color here and there to pull the picture together . Because Red Violet is the master color in the background , use lightheaded speck of it on the succulents to merge the pallet . Also , add a bit more of the Grass Green ink to the nerve center of the succulents . Since Grass Green is the brightest color in this palette , it makes those areas pop .

The painting is done ! Now all that needs to be done is put it in a mat and soma !

I hope that this demo has been helpful to you and that you ’ve enjoyed creating your own unparalleled piece of art . Feel free to tweet me a jibe of your young house painting @DanaDraws . I ’d love to see your termination !
