What to do when running repairs run out of steam
For the retiring few months we ’ve been carrying out a serial of move repairs on one of our kick upstairs bed that was slowly rot aside . The inevitable come about last week , when one of the side panels come completely aside from the model , spilling soil and compost everywhere . On closer inspection , all the Mrs. Henry Wood was easy disintegrating so we decide to replace the whole lot . But what to do with all the soil ?
In the end we remove two barrowloads and piled the residuum to whichever side of the bed we were n’t work on . The key to long - go lift bed is to verify they have dependable drain and to build them somewhere that is shelter but acquire decent amounts of sunshine .
If you have more than one , ensure they are wide enough apart so you may get a lawn cart or lawnmower between them as well as a wheelchair for less - able gardeners .

Raised beds are arrant for anyone with disablement or back annoyance as they set aside you to garden without painful stooping and if built three or four board - breadth high , you’re able to run your territory and crop while sitting down .
The materials you habituate is up to you – wood , brick , Harlan Stone and corrugated iron are all viable option . We built ours using tanalised decking boards from a local supplier and used zinc - plat screws to hold everything together . The impermeable ideal would be untarnished steel fuck , but we pick up that they are prohibitively expensive so opted for the cheap , but satisfactory durable , alternative .
Starting this summer ’s plants

1 . I ’ve sowed perennial and celeriac seeds in supermarket grape punnets and to my delight discovered that three set cozily inside a generation tray , with elbow room for the lid and labels too .
2 . While weeding I unexpectedly dug up one of last summer ’s Rudbeckia industrial plant that had already lead off to grow new shoot . spoilt weather condition was forecast so I pot it up in the greenhouse until later in bounce .
How to establish a long - lasting raised bed

1 . We removed one side of the raise bed and stack the remaining land on the other .
2 . To cut down the risk of exposure of rotting , we stand the corner posts in preservative before use .
3 . Preservative was also brushed onto the nail cakehole to help keep out the conditions .

4 . Make certain the boards form a close correct angle and are firmly screwed together to sustain the weight of dirt and plants .
