Yep – you may grow jackfruit in Florida .
When I was down in Ft . Lauderdale a few weeks ago , I got to speak with my long - time friends Chuck and Sarah – and found out they had implant a Jackfruit tree in their yard a few years back .
After I got home , I asked Chuck if he ’d send a few movie – which he did , along with a few note on his tree diagram .

Growing jackfruit in Florida is passably easy if you ’re in a freeze - free part of the state .
Chuck wrote , “ I ’m institutionalise you several painting of our Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , though I do n’t know much about jackfruit . We planted the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree 4 - 5 years ago . It was 6 feet tall then . Now it a good 20 understructure eminent . The yield grows to about the size of it of watermelons . It is very sticky . The Jamaican woman in our church all like it , so we separate the spoils among them . They tell us you need to oil up your hand before contract in to it . It was too much for Sarah & I , but the tree offer up a raft of keen shade . ”
raise a jackfruit and have your neighbors wonder what the heck those unripened spiky thing are !

Therein lie a fantastic truth about fruit tree : if you establish something edible , even if you do n’t care it , you ’ll still be able to partake in the bounty with others . Can you say that about an oak or a magnolia or a pine ? Nope . The Jamaican ladies at Chuck ’s church building are getting their socks blessed off them because Chuck and Sarah make up one’s mind to plant afruittree .
I do have some serious growing zone invidia bet at these picture , though . Jackfruit is a completely tropical tree ; Ft . Lauderdale is basically the very top of its potential range . When people sound off that “ nothing grows in Florida , ” I want to damp their lying teeth ( metaphorically talk , of class ) . Just because you ca n’t grow cherries or apples like you had back home … it does n’t signify NOTHING will produce . Dip into the bounty of the Torrid Zone if you ’re in geographical zone 10 – it ’s a genuinely abundant mineral vein to mine .
