This is the first day in over a week that I ’ve in reality open my laptop , and I must say it ’s been a really adorable holiday fracture . Will and I spent Christmas with his kinfolk in Northern California , and I hope I ’m not alone in say a break from our holiday break of serve is now in decree !
We had a lively workweek filled with family natural process — Christmas Eve with all the cousins , Christmas Day with our immediate family , a day - after dinner with my siblings - in - jurisprudence , then a holiday block company at my mother - in - police force ’s house on Mount Tamalpais . That ’s six full days of decorating , wrapping , unwrapping , prepping , preparation , feeding , imbibing , and more eating with dozen of Quaker and family I only get to see a couple times a year … and I am wiped . out . In the most heartwarming path !
Sprout ( now 29 week and cooking along ) has been kicking up a tempest thanks to all the Christmas cookies I ’ve been try out ! I ’m not even a sweets someone , normally , but who can turn down all that candy store made in the name of Christmas spirit ?
Despite the gluttony of the holiday , I really love the generations - old tradition that have bear steadfast in my husband ’s family . Christmas cockcrow started with a beautiful blue day on Mount Tam , a cheerily surprising tantrum as it had been stormy and gloomy in the days leading up .
Since we ’d all persist up recently the nighttime before , we did n’t begin the annual ritual until well retiring noon : a homemade brunch of eggs Ruth Benedict and cocktail ( this year , it was noose fizz ) , followed by a few hours of lazing around the open fireplace while each one of us assume our turn of events give a gift . We were theorise to shine gifts altogether this year , but it seems none of us got the memorandum !
We ran out of time before we had to bug out making dinner party , so the stocking were save for the next night … again , a leisurely ( and boozy ) custom whereby each individual bring out a gift while the rest of us ooh’ed and ahh’ed . This went on and on in a circle until there were no more gifts to unwrap . It could seriously stretch into the Nox if we did n’t have dinner get cold on the table ! With a new extremity in the folk next Christmas , we ’re belong to have to find a way to speed things up a bit … or reconcile ourselves to the fact that we ’ll call for to set out at sunrise !
After a very full calendar week , Will and I made it home yesterday with the purpose of ring in the New Year quietly . We ’re look forward to spend January 1 outside , somewhere somehow , and are hoping the next violent storm will be generous with snow so we can sneak in a getaway to the mountains midweek .
January is already blazing by between my infant showers and a road trip to Oregon , and I ’m in disbelief at how quickly 2016 is forge up . Good affair are plump to be happening on many figurehead , and I ’m so excited to see this next twelvemonth unfold .
