A container designer creates engaging arrangements that delight during the heat of summer and transition beautifully into the cool moths of fall
Hi GPODers !
No matter the season , it ’s always a pleasure to see the container creations Howard Nemeroff creates for this clients in Chicago , Illinois . Owner ofPlant Parenting , Inc. , Howard make seasonal display that always bedazzle and joy , train out his former submissions here : One Window Box , Four Seasons , Howard ’s Spring Container Displays , andNew Creations From a Window Box Expert . to boot , in case you missed it , Howard was featured in our mark magazine in our Garden Photo of the Day department ( that ’s right , if you submit to GPOD you have a chance of being featured in an actual issue ofFine Gardeningmagazine ! ) , where we dove deeper into his career in gardening and lesson learned through his age of container design ( Accessorizing the Landscape with Seasonal Containers ) .
Today we ’re look at a few containers that Howard created this summer , as well as container that are making their way into nightfall . To help round off out today ’s blog I added in some picture that he sent in for his mark article so they get all of the wonderment that they deserve .

A raw material of Howard ’s containers and show - stopping foliage . This refined pop of pink is a planting from this past summer , and while the clustering of pinkish begonias are sublime , it really is the foliage doing the heavy lifting . Multicolored diversification in ‘ Exotica ’ genus Cordyline ( Cordylinefruticosa‘Exotica ’ , annual ) is a fab focal period plant stretching out from the center top . ‘ Red Flash ’ caladium ( Caladium‘Red Flash ’ , Zones : 9–12 or as an annual ) adds even more outrageous color in some more abstract shapes . Sweet potato vine — potentially Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Mahogany ™ ( Ipomoeahybrid‘NCORNSP-031SHMG ’ , annual)?—adds a darker tone to the commixture and acts like a bass burgundy shadow to the plant above .
Another summertime stunner , this one with bolder shades of red ink . Crotons are classic for free fall containers , but they should not be forgotten for summer container with tropical flair . A red verbena provides dependable , trailing blooming with Reigerbegoniasand huntsman’s horn of fuchsia touch base everything together in the middle of the pot .
shadowed spots are equally worth of bear - out potted planting . Bird ’s nest fern , sweet potato vine ( Ipomoea batatascv . , Zones 9–11 or as an yearly ) , and ‘ Fireworks ’ rex begonia ( Begonia‘Fireworks ’ , Zones 9–11 ) adds more luxuriant leaf to the shade while also providing a fun pop of colouring material .

The plants in this container have mature to such unbelievable sizes that that the pot is barely visible behind all of that varied foliage . This planting has had a very successful growing season , but the beauty does n’t end and the pot got a small refresh with the increase of a bright pink mommy is the kernel . Bismarck palm ( Bismarckia nobilis , Zones 10–11 or as an annual ) stands at attention at the top of the spate while Sweet Caroline Raven ™ sweet potato vine ( Ipomoea batatas‘NCORNSP-024SCRI ’ , annual ) brings a dark dividing line . I ca n’t quite severalise what the pale green beauty on the right is … Howard could you clue us in ?
In spill , Howard ’s designs withornamental cabbage(Brassicaoleraceacvs . , Zones 7–11 ) and kale ( Brassicaoleracea resume . , Zones 7–11 ) are always stand out . This orotund dish plantation owner with burnished icteric mums is a reverend color compounding .
Twin urn plantation owner celebrating K . Howard said : “ Mossy bluestone and a midnight blue door was my inspiration , ” and that ’s reflecting so distinctly and attractively . The planter are an expert - example of compliment and enhance a space .

give thanks you for sharing these gorgeous plantings with us , Howard ! The combination and arrangement you make never break to baffle . If you ’re not already , be sure to follow Howard on Instagram ( @plant_parenting ) to see more of his containers through the seasons .
