Getting creative with container plantings
We ’ve visit Carla Zambelli Mudry ’s garden in Malvern , Pennsylvania , several time , but today she ’s sharing a focus on her container plants .
It ’s not all about what you put in your flower beds ; it ’s also abouthanging basket , planter , and pots . Often these are garden alternatives that people with very niggling horticulture space can do ! I wish mixing perennial with yearly , and I useherbsand more in pots . In some of the fully grown anchor pot , I care using perennial because I do n’t have to take care of the plant every year ; they just return . A fall basket with flowering geraniums ( Pelargonium , Zones 9–11 or as annuals )
Two big flock planted up with a mixture of herb supply both fragrant , useful leaves and an interesting green stress to the garden . In the front left hand , another pot combines a blue hydrangea ( Hydrangeamacrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) with sweet geranium ( Pelargoniumhybrid , Zones 9–11 or as an yearly ) and fragrant bloodstone ( Heliotropiumarborescens , Zones 10–11)—proof that you may get originative in yourcontainer combination !

A cool container without a drainage hole can be turned into a suitable home for flora by slipping another slew — with drain — inside it .
Hostasthrive and look beautiful in containers , coming back each twelvemonth . In moth-eaten climates , moving the containers with perennials into an unwarmed shed or service department during the winter will assist protect their roots from uttermost temperature .
A smallJapanese maple(Acerpalmatum , Zones 5–9 ) in this container is an accent to the birdcage - similar structure that covers it .

Two plants of what look likeSalviaguaranitica‘Black and Blue ’ ( Zones 7–10 ) in , appropriately , black and blue container . Salviaguaraniticacan distribute sharply in garden where it is hardy , so container are a upright way to keep it contained .
A cunning little owl part this container with ahydrangea , geraniums , and thyme ( Thymussp . ) .
Growing lavender ( Lavandulaangustifolia , Zones 5–9 ) in a pot is a swell way to lift thatfragrantfoliage up to where you may well smell out it — and if your aboriginal soil is heavy and wet , to give it the good drainage it needs .
