I am sitting here by the woodstove with my seed catalogs and laptop and dreaming of this year’s garden, pouring over the huge variety of seeds and plants available.

We were pip hard by last weekend ’s wintertime snowstorm – and are still dealing with cumulus of C – and draw car in and out . Underneath all of that piled - up downfall , the world is burgeon with life . Maple buds are pinkish and coke drop foliage is about two - to three - column inch grandiloquent . Besides carrying in firewood , feeding the birds , slog up and down the drive and shoveling , there is not much to do alfresco .
So I am sitting here by the woodstove with my cum catalog and laptop computer and dream of this yr ’s garden , pouring over the huge potpourri of seeds and plants usable . It is challenging to whittle down the alternative . Presently , I am concentrating on the Herb of the Year for 2016 , Capsicum . Although , I do arise some sweet peppers , my heat is for chile peppercorn , so I am get to share some that are on my listing , as well as a few of the catalogs that I am range from .

My husbandry neighbour , Denise Sharp , placed her big seed rescript the first of the month and she sent me her catalog in cause I want to consecrate anything . So I chose from the ten or so cultivars of serranos and jalapenos , and also a poblano , ‘ New Mexico ’ and ‘ Pisces ’ capsicum .
I go steady a little sweet-smelling pepper posted on www.iherb.org chat group that get my middle , so I went online to the Hudson Valley Seed Library to range ‘ Pippin ’s Golden Honey Pepper ’ . These family have the most beautiful art on their seed pack done by dissimilar artists . I ordered a few kinds of seeds just for the artwork : ‘ Red Noodle Bean ’ , ‘ Glorious Gleam Nasturtium ’ and ‘ beamy Radish Blend ’ . The coolheaded things about these packets are that they have an easy - to - uncase - off stumper on the back and the parcel can be easily opened and open open to catch the graphics on the exterior and the ejaculate data on the inside and the sticker can be reapplied . Lovely and canny packaging.www.seedlibrary.org
I have been receiving , and ordering from , The Ethnobotanical Catalog of Seedsfrom J.L. Hudson , La Honda , California for decades . It is a no - frills black - and - white catalog , which sells seed , a few books , gibberellic dot kit and a very few supplies for research . The seed listings are fascinating and impressive – they do not have a speech sound – and they only take checks . They do have a websitehttps://jlhudsonseeds.net/. Besides a golden tithonia and a particular Lusitanian kale , I order a dozen strange capsicum ranging from a ‘ specter ’ pepper to an orange jalapeno ; ‘ Satan ’s Kiss ’ ; a variegate chile from Alabama ‘ Bellingrath Gardens ’ ; a sweet pepper plant ‘ Feher Ozon ’ ; and an heirloom from France ‘ Rouge de la Bresse ’ . An exciting find – two lesser known and rare mintage than the vulgar five we develop most often , C. chacoense ‘ Tova ’ or ‘ Covincha ’ andC. rhomboideumgrown from Mexico to Peru . I am jazzed about this rescript !

Of course , I had to order from the gorgeous Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company catalogue … it ’s severely not to require everything you see in there!https://www.rareseeds.com / store / A few chile selections from there are : one of my all - clip favorites ‘ Lemon Drop ’ ; a ‘ Brazilian Starfish Hot Pepper ’ ; a new one to me is ‘ Bisquinho Hot Pepper ’ which means “ small beak ” and is from Brazil ; and a Baker Creek exclusive , ‘ Buena Mulata Hot Pepper ’ acquired in 1944 from African - American folks creative person Horace Pippin . By purchasing some of these peppers , part of the price goes to supporting the work of William Woys Weaver , a gardener and writer whose work I have admire for many years .
A few other catalog that I am father chiles and other seeds from are Richters 2016 Herb & Vegetable Cataloguewww.richters.com ; Seed Savers Exchangehttps://exchange.seedsavers.org/index.aspx ; and Native Seed Searchhttps://shop.nativeseeds.org/. I will elaborate on the latter two in an upcoming bean web log .
What will I be doing with all of these Republic of Chile ? I will plant some of each and share them with Denise at Sharp Farm , so they will be available to some local nurseryman . And I will share seed with the gardener at the Ozark Folk Center so that they can grow them for their Heritage Herb Garden to feature Capsicum , Herb of the Year 2016 , as well as for their crowing consequence in the fall , the Herb Harvest Fall Festival , where we will be highlighting the nation of South America .

Y’all better start regularise your seed now – the mean solar day are lengthen already !
